Served as Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine for 33 years. He is now a Distinguished Professor and Chairman Emeritus. A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine he completed a Residency in Otolaryngology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School, as well as a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery with Dr. John Conley. Dr. Myers also served as an Otolaryngologist in the U.S. Army 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany. Head and Neck Surgery was Dr. Myers’ clinical interest and he estimates that he did 9,000 operations during his active surgical career. His rich clinical experience led to more than three hundred publications in peer reviewed journals and dozens of book chapters. He is the Editor of Operative Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, Decision Making in Otolaryngology, Cancer of the Head and Neck, and is the Series Editor of Master Techniques in Otolaryngology. Dr. Myers served as President of the American Board of Otolaryngology, American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, American Society of Head and Neck Surgery, the American Laryngological Association and the Pan-American Society of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Myers is currently the Honorary President of the Balkan Society of Otolaryngology and is the AAO-HNS Regional Advisor to the Balkan Countries and remains a member of the AAO-HNS International Committees.

I was born in Rotterdam in 1954, followed my training as a physician in Leiden and then I followed my training as an ENT specialist in Nijmegen. After my education I spent 7 years as a staff member at the university hospital St Radboud and from 1997 onwards I worked in the Alrijne hospital in Leiderdorp. My first years there I have combined with a part-time appointment at the VU as a trainer in Ophthalmology. The latter stopped in 2000, allowing time to become a medical commentator at Business News Radio in addition to my work as an ENT specialist. The pleasure I derive from this is mainly due to the explanation of medical issues in language that everyone understands. I also try to do the same in my daily work as an ENT doctor, but there is an increasing lack of time for this. At ACIBADEM International Medical Center, that time is there: the patient is central and therefore gets all the time and space. A valuable addition to my work as an ENT doctor is the position of SCEN doctor, first in the South Holland North region and for some time in Amsterdam.

Dr. Friedman is a world renowned leader in the treatment of acoustic neuromas. He began his career as a fellow at House Clinic and later joined the group as an Associate where he had a busy practice for 15 years. He now serves as Division Director of Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery in the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Keck Medicine of USC. Additional areas of expertise include, cochlear implants, glomus tumors, otosclerosis, meningiomas, chronic ear disorders and chronic otitis media. Alexandra is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and my clinical practice and research interests focus on the utilization of currently available optical imaging techniques as an adjunct to oncologic surgery and intraoperative margin detection in the oral cavity and oropharynx. She have worked in conjunction with Dr. Eben Rosenthal looking at directed fluorescence markers as indications of bony erosion in oral cavity cancer. She worked on retrospective analysis of margin detection in transoral robotic surgery. Her interests are in outcomes following head and neck cancer treatment, healthcare literacy, access to care, and health care disparities in patients with head and neck cancer. She also have a significant interest in post-therapy and post-surgical functional swallowing outcomes as well.

Her research interests in treatment outcomes align perfectly with Dr.Angadi’s interests in application of voice and swallowing rehabilitation for the irradiated head and neck cancer population.

Ghada Al-Malky is a Senior Lecturer at The UCL Ear Institute, London. Her general research interests are Translational research aiming at bridging the gap between laboratory auditory biophysics and genetics research and clinical applications in human patients. The verification of the clinical usefulness of the continuous advances in auditory rehabilitation and establishing how they could be best utilised to improve patient’s quality of life. Her current specific research is related to investigating the auditory effect of aminoglycoside ototoxicity; assessing incidence, identifying the most appropriate test battery to effectively record their effect on the auditory system, modifying and developing testing instrumentation to allow for early detection of minimal changes in the ear and identifying genetic markers that make certain individuals more susceptible to the ototoxic effect of aminoglycoside antibiotics more than others. This research is aiming to help us better understand this topic and allow for the translation of lab-based research into the clinic setting.

Her current specific research is related to investigating the auditory effect of aminoglycoside ototoxicity.
